Empties #1 2021, Sugar & Spice

I haven’t done an empties post or video since July last year – that is almost a whole year!

To be fair, I did end up binning a lot of empties I had stashed away in our move, and I shared a few random bits and bobs over on Instagram.  However, since we’ve settled in I’ve been back to hoarding my trash for one purpose – sharing with you what I’ve loved, what I’ve just finished for lack of waste, and what I’m tossing due to it being supremely unsuitable or passed it’s sell-by date.

Want to see some of my previous empties posts?  You can here: –

Empties #1 2021, Sugar & Spice

Skin Oils From Africa Hemp Seed Oil Body Cream *

I’m a huge fan of the Skin Oils From Africa products, as it’s from the same company that makes Bodycare From Africa.  These pump bottles are massive, and at R90 a really decent price too, especially for the quality of product you’re getting.

I love that the products are free from fragrances, colourants, phthalates and parabens.  My body skin can be a bit sensitive – it often doesn’t react immediately but over time I find I can get bumps, redness and texture when a product doesn’t agree with my skin.  Not a problem I’ve had with any of the Skin Oils From Africa products, and especially not with this.

Hemp seed oil is fabulous in the treatment of eczema, dry skin and irritation, as well as helping to reduce inflammation.  This was beautifully nourishing for my skin, yet didn’t leave a greasy layer.  I also found it helped calm any irritation on my legs post shaving, and didn’t casue bumps to appear on my arms.

Would definitely repurchase.

Empties #1 2021, Sugar & Spice

Bramley Magnolia Tissue Oil Body Wash*

I had NEVER tried any of the Bramley products until the last 6 months or so.  I was always a bit concerned as these tissue oils are fragranced.

HOWEVER – I was wrong! I’ve used the body tissue oil, the hand cream and now this beautiful body wash.  While they’re indeed lightly fragranced, it smells lovely but doesn’t irritate my skin.

This shower gel is also MASSIVE, lasts for ages, and doesn’t leave skin feeling dried out.

Would repurchase.

Bodycare From Africa Hemp Seed Hand & Nail Cream*

Another Hemp Seed product, I am damn obsessed with the Bodycare From Africa hand and nail creams.  They’re all extremely nourishing, but don’t leave your hands feeling sticky or greasy.

I also found the addition of hemp seed great in calming skin that’s irritated by over-washing and over-sanitising.

Even better – they’re R50!  You can order online, and the brand is often on Runway Sale too.

Have repurchased the different scents multiple times already.

Empties #1 2021, Sugar & Spice

Nivea Deo Beauty Essence Even Tone*

I’m not a big fan of roll on deodorant, as I find it’s messy and gets on my clothing.  This little gem, however didn’t seem to be AS messy as the others I’ve used, so I continued to use it all the way until it was finished.

One of the biggest reasons I find a deodorant that works, and generally stick with that, is because my skin under my arms is so sensitive.  I battle to find products that soothe it post shave, and so far the Nivea Black & White Silky Smooth is my official go to.

The scent of this roll on, however is just so gorgeous and soft, and I found that it didn’t irritate my skin at all.

I’d maybe repurchase this in the spray, but I think I’ll be sticking to my other Nivea deo for now.

Empties #1 2021, Sugar & Spice

Cacherel Yes I Am EDP*

Guys I had big doubts on this fragrance.  I just wasn’t sure if the scent would be for me.

Yet, I used this all up – something I don’t easily do with fragrances.

It’s a beautiful floral fragrances with a soft, creaminess to it that is just stunning.  My skin definitely pulled out the warmer, vanilla notes in the scent, and I so often got asked what fragrance I had on when wearing this!

I would definitely repurchase this, and soon.

Empties #1 2021, Sugar & Spice

The Body Shop Vanilla Pumpkin Hand Cream

This limited edition scent from The Body Shop comes out every year some time between winter and Christmas.  It’s just the most delicious, comforting scent – great for the cooler weather – so I always save mine for this time of year.

Sadly this was just a little tube, and with the rate at which I’m applying hand cream (thanks Covid), it didn’t last more than a couple of weeks.  But I loved every second of it!

Would repurchase.

Empties #1 2021, Sugar & Spice

Bramley Magnolia Hand & Nail Cream*

Another Bramley goodie I loved, this is hydrating without being greasy, and absorbs beautifully.

I think it would be better suited to summer though, as it’s quite light.

Would repurchase.

Empties #1 2021, Sugar & Spice

Nivea Love Fun Times Shower Gel*

I LOVE Nivea shower gels.  They always smell so good, and leave my skin feeling clean and soft.

This pink grapefruit shower gel was a lovely, energizing boost for morning showers, as heaven knows I’m no morning person.  I really need all I can get to help me wake up and start my day, and this was just the zesty, fresh scent to do it.

Would repurchase.

Empties #1 2021, Sugar & Spice

L’Oreal Revitalift Filler + Hyaluronic Acid Ampoules*

I’ll be doing a full review on this product alone, so I don’t want to say TOO much over my empties here, but these are AH-MAZING.

I did the full 7-day test with them, as my skin was just starting to feel that seasonal change.  At the end of the week, my skin was plump, glowing and happy as can be.

Definitely great as a hydrating, plumping boost, and then you can continue by using the bottle of serum from the range afterwards.

Will DEFINITELY repurchase.

Empties #1 2021, Sugar & Spice

Esse Sensitive Cleanser*

This is a beautifully gentle cleanser that doesn’t strip or irritate skin at all.  It definitely removes makeup and cleanses skin like a charm, but leaves your skin happy, balanced and comfortable after use.

I love the Esse Sensitive line, and that the products are natural, organic and contain pre and probiotics.  They leave my barrier a happy camper – a hard task as a previous set of treatments done in my teens actually compromised my skin, leaving the barrier grumpy and easy to set off balance.

I scraped every last drop out of this bottle and will definitely repurchase.

Empties #1 2021, Sugar & Spice

Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs & Rosewater*

I am utterly obsessed with the Mario Badescu facial sprays – and with 4 in the range now, there is sure to be one for everyone.

As much as I love all of them, the Aloe, Herbs & Rosewater will forever be my favourite.  The scent, how it feels on my skin and how it leaves my skin looking – so fresh, dewy, glowing and happy.

Have repurchased a few times and will continue to do so.

Empties #1 2021, Sugar & Spice

Eucerin SPF50 Photoaging Control Sun Fluid*

I am a stickler for sunscreen every single day of my life.  I don’t go a day without applying some sort of sun protection to my face.

I really loved this Eucerin one, as it doesn’t leave a greasy layer on the skin, nor does it leave that white, chalky caste.

Would repurchase.

Empties #1 2021, Sugar & Spice

Mario Badescu Hyaluronic Eye Cream*

I have sung the praises of the Mario Badescu eye creams multiple times now.  They offer some of the best you’ll find, and they have one for every concern.

My absolute favourite is the Glycolic, but this Hyaluronic version is just downright lovely.  It’s super lightweight, very hydrating and suitable for day or night use.  Plus, it sits beautifully under makeup.

Would repurchase (although I’m currently trialing their Caffeine Eye Cream and loving that too).

Empties #1 2021, Sugar & Spice

Nuxe Bio Organic Fruit Stone Powder Micro Exfoliating Cleansing Mask*

I loved this mask SO much.  What I loved most was that it was such a quick use mask too –  you only leave it on for 3 minutes.

The formula is so creamy and smells delicious, and it offers a double exfoliating action.  The physical part being apricot kernel powder, and the chemical being salicylic acid.  My skin was left feeling crazy soft, smooth and clean.

Would definitely repurchase.

Empties #1 2021, Sugar & Spice

Mario Badescu Peptide Renewal Serum*

I have already raved and raved about this serum, as it’s such a fabulous anti-ageing product for your routine.  It firms, lifts and nourishes, all while smoothing fine lines.

You can read more of my thoughts on this serum in these posts: –

Highly recommend and would repurchase.

Empties #1 2021, Sugar & Spice

Ellips Smooth & Shiny capsules*

You all know I’m mad for the Ellips hair capsules.  Not a wash and dry goes by without me using one!

These yellow Smooth & Shiny capsules are some of my best for the drier months, as they keep my hair feeling silky smooth – perfect for a straighter, sleeker look, but they work just as well for smooth, yet tousled waves too.

Already repurchased and I’m a brand ambassador!

Empties #1 2021, Sugar & Spice

Schwarzkopf BC Bonacure Colour Freeze Treatment*

I absolutely love this hair mask, I’m all about masks that help to strengthen the structure of the hair and keep it soft and shiny.

This is probably my second or third tub of the Bonacure Colour Freeze Treatment, and I really did enjoy it as I’ve always done.

Would repurchase but there are so many effective but as a treat – there are more affordable masks on the market, and even the Schwarzkopf Gliss range is amazing and much less costly.

Empties #1 2021, Sugar & Spice

NAK Hydrate Shampoo & Conditioner minis*

Unfortunately these were really underwhelming.  I have heard so many things about the NAK brand, and loved that I had some travel sized hair products to test out.  However, they claimed to be hydrating – yet I didn’t find them to be at all.

The shampoo was decent, but my hair felt too squeaky clean after washing, and the conditioner did very little, and not even much to detangle my hair.

I would not repurchase – but then I can’t find these specific products on Retailbox anymore anyway.

Empties #1 2021, Sugar & Spice

Batiste Hair Benefits Damage Control Dry Shampoo

I use a dry shampoo between washes, and the Hair Benefits range from Batiste is now my official go to.  It’s completely invisible, it’s super lightweight (trust me, I’ve used some that leave your hair feeling DIRTIER than before) and non sticky.

This worldwide favourite dry shampoo has also received some super impressive ratings recently – did you know that consumers have overall rated it as 4.8 out of 5?  99% of people would recommend this Hair Benefits range, that comes in Damage Control (my favourite), Hydrate, Volume and De-Frizz.  97% agree that it is effective in addressing the relevant hair concerns, and 93% agree that it is indeed invisible, lightweight and non-sticky!

Have repurchased more times than I can remember!

Empties #1 2021, Sugar & Spice

L’Oreal Elvive Dream Lengths Shampoo

I ran out of shampoo at some point (before I suddenly received an influx of hair products that needed testing) and had heard so much about the Dream Lengths range that I bought the shampoo to try.

Let me just say – I enjoyed the shampoo so much that I’d very much like to go out and purchase the whole range!  It smells delicious, leaves hair unbelievably soft, yet still clean and doesn’t leave it feeling heavy.

10/10 would recommend and will be repurchasing this and the rest of the range.

Empties #1 2021, Sugar & Spice

Creightons Sunshine Blonde Silver Shampoo*

I always keep a purple shampoo on rotation to rid my hair of brassy tones, and this is the only one in my collection of empties because I only use it every second or third wash.

I love that the Creightons products are affordable (and available at Dischem), plus they’re also cruelty free and vegan.  This purple shampoo was on the milder side, but as I used it again and again, I noticed it was gradually toning my hair and keeping it that way.

I’ve used many purple shampoos, some have been useless, some have been extremely pigmented and left me looking like a blue-rinse granny.  This is an absolute gem, you just need to be conscientious in using it regularly, and it’ll keep those brassy tones away.

Would repurchase.

Empties #1 2021, Sugar & Spice

Esse Foundation*

This is my second empty bottle of the Esse foundation.  I can guarantee it won’t be my last.

I have combination skin, so I’ve never really been a fan of ‘dewy’ makeup on myself.  It usually ends up looking more ‘puddle of grease’ than ‘youthful glow’ by midday, which is SO not a look I’m into.

However, the Esse foundation provides not only the most gorgeous glowy finish – it’s a medium coverage, skin-tone evening miracle that is packed with pre and probiotics, as well as other skincare ingredients guaranteed to improve the quality of your skin over time.

I have a full review of the foundation up on my site HERE, but in a nutshell, the more often I used this foundation, the better my skin looked.  It was less pink, calmer, more hydrated and clearer.

Will hopefully repurchase soon!

Empties #1 2021, Sugar & Spice

Revlon Photoready Candid Foundation*

This is the third tube of the Candid foundation I’ve finished, and I am still just so obsessed with how it looks on my skin.

The coverage is beautiful and a natural medium finish, it looks and feels so fresh on the skin and is so lightweight.  The whole Candid range is just amazing – in fact, read my post on the range HERE for more info.

This definitely won’t be the last tube – I already had a backup.

Empties #1 2021, Sugar & Spice

Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation

Wow – I didn’t realise I had such a great repertoire of foundation reviews, until I realised that all 3 empty foundations are repeat offenders who have glowing full reviews on my blog.

This Lancôme foundation is utterly gorgeous, and has a subtle scent of rose to it.  I found it was more of a medium or medium to full coverage – you can get the full coverage if you go in and build it up, which it does nicely if you give it a minute or 2 between layers.

I loved how it gave me great coverage but never looked heavy or cakey, and that it lasts all day long.

You can read my full review of the Teint Idole Ultra HERE.

This is my second bottle and I will definitely repurchase.

Empties #1 2021, Sugar & Spice

Earthsap Peppermint & Eucalyptus Air Freshner*

These Earthsap air freshners are INSANELY good.

I was sent 3 fragrances – the Citrus Valencia, Peppermint and Eucaluptus, and Lavender and Rosemary.  Of the 3, this one was most definitely my favourite.  It is just so fresh and clean!

These Earthsap air freshners don’t contain any nasty chemicals, and rather than covering any unpleasant smells they actually neutralize them.

HIGHLY recommend and I need to stock up on a few more.

Empties #1 2021, Sugar & Spice

Curaprox Be You Toothpaste Taste Pack

I’ve seen these pretty, rainbow coloured toothpastes doing the rounds, and purchased their taste pack for myself with a goal of using them for weekend trips and overnighters.  We haven’t been traveling as much as we normally do though, so I designated a couple of the tubes to my travel toiletry bag, and put the others to the test.  I did, however, get a taste of all 6 and let me just tell you – the Watermelon and the Blackberry & Licorice are the best!

That being said, they’re all really lovely tasting.  I assumed that I wouldn’t get that fresh, mintiness to my mouth that standard toothpastes leave, as they are flavoured, AND contain no SLS.  This was not the case though, as they all contain pretty little pearls that are made up of menthol.  My mouth was still fresh and minty (albeit with a delicious flavour that lingered on top of this), and even with the lesser amount of foam thanks to the missing SLS, my teeth and overall mouth still felt very clean.

I try to use only toothpastes that I know won’t cause irritation, or at the very least SLS-free toothpastes, as it is an ingredient that (when in higher percentages in dental products) causes the skin around my mouth to become sore and irritated.  These obviously didn’t do that, and in fact were an absolute joy to use.

Would definitely repurchase a full size of my favourite too, but these (the Grapefruit & Bergamot, and the Gin,
Tonic & Persimmon) were also delicious.

Empties #1 2021, Sugar & Spice

Biorepair Expanding Dental Floss*

I’ve not (as far as I can remember) ever really mentioned a dental floss before.

This Biorepair floss was, however, one of the best I’ve used.  Gentle, yet tough, my teeth have never felt so clean and happy.

Would repurchase.
