If you recall, a few weeks ago, the Hubs and I headed to the KZN Midlands, for a beautiful stay at the new Brahman Hills Springholm cottages. Well, while we were there, we also had the opportunity to indulge in the new Sunday carvery that Brahman Hills is offering. We love a Sunday carvery buffet, it’s such a lovely thing to do on a Sunday, especially with family and friends, so we were thrilled to bits!
The Sunday carvery buffet is served at The Stables restaurant, away from the main hotel and closer to the gorgeous Brahman Hills spa (see my review of the spa HERE). The view is absolutely exquisite – think rolling fields and hills, and glass doors for you to absorb it all (whether they’re shut during colder weather, or opened for you to fully embrace the sunshine).
The Stables can also be used as a wedding reception venue, it’s a decent size, beautiful and open and the view as I mentioned is lovely.
On arrival, you have a choice between a glass of red or white wine (they had some lovely Durbanville Hills on offer), fresh fruit juice or a beer from a beer cart just outside the venue. We both opted for the craft IPA, and it was delicious.
As far as the actual buffet goes – well, that was a very pleasant surprise.
The variety is impressive, with a selection of fresh salads, cold meats and soup of the day: –
The mains section was so varied that we were completely spoilt for choice, with delectable roasts, different cuts of meat, fish and plenty of veggie options. They also had a beautiful gravy, but in addition to that they had a pepper sauce – quite possibly the best I’ve had – and it was not only drizzled over the cuts of roast beef, there was a container of it at the roast station.
We went back for seconds of the mains section, there was just so much choice that you couldn’t possibly fit it all on one plate. Let’s just say that we REALLY didn’t need dinner that night!
HOWEVER – there is always room for dessert. If I could (without being judged), I’d probably go for dessert first, as I have a viscous sweet tooth.
The most disappointing part? The fact that I didn’t have the space to taste every single dessert on offer. There was also a huge chocolate cake (that I sadly didn’t get a photo of), however a big slice of that made it’s way onto my plate. Hubs and I shared it, and I swear it was the best chocolate cake I’ve ever eaten! Nothing fancy, not super dark or super rich – just a basic chocolate cake with chocolate icing, but moist, fluffy, light and heavenly. I’ve been craving that cake ever since.
Keen to visit The Stables at Brahman Hills to try out the Sunday carvery buffet yourself?
