I’m sure you’ve seen by now, via my social media and my YouTube, that Hubs and I were lucky enough to stay at the new Springholm Cottages at Brahman Hills. As previously mentioned, we have stayed at the Brahman Hills self catering cottages before, so we were very keen to see what Springholm was like in comparison. You can read our first review HERE.
Check out my full vlog of our trip to the Midlands, and our stay at Springholm here, to get a real feeling for the place and our time there: –
Springholm is situated about 4.5km up the road from the Brahman Hills main hotel, and overlooks a beautiful dam in the Blue Crane Nature Reserve. There is a selection of rooms, from waterfront 2-bedroom self catering, 1-bedroom self catering situated slightly further back from the dam, some B & B rooms and a beautiful waterfront honeymoon suite, the Sunbird Suite, where we called ‘home’ for 2 nights.

The Sunbird Suite is absolutely gorgeous, and contains all the above AND a private bonfire area and braai facilities. It’s the perfect escape for couples who want to get away from it all and spend quality time together in the country.
As the sun dips and night settles in, the area does get substantially chillier, so make sure you bring a jacket with for after hours, even if the weather is on the warmer side. I ended up in dresses during the day, and my winter onesie at night!
Our stay included breakfast, which is served on site at the main lodge, however, they only serve breakfast. And that breakfast is DELICIOUS!
If you’re keen on eating lunch and dinner though, you can head to the main Brahman Hills hotel for meals at their Cafe or their fine dining restaurant 89 On Copper. They also have the beautiful Copper bar, perfect for a night cap or a bottle of red by the fire.
The area around the dam is beautiful for taking a walk or even indulging in a romantic picnic. We walked around to the opposite side with some red wine, and relaxed in the shade for a while.
Honestly – we spent just two nights at Springholm and we would have gladly stayed a week. The sense of rest, relaxation and peace that we felt while staying there was amazing, I hadn’t seen my stressed out husband so relaxed in ages.
I can highly recommend spending a weekend or longer at Springholm, whether you’re in the area for a wedding, you’re looking for a romantic time with your partner or you’re on the lookout for a family weekend of fishing and bonding time.
There is so much to do in the area that you’ll be kept occupied – we love the Midlands for it’s variety of activities, it’s food and it’s wine.
