Many of you that follow me on Instagram saw a few weeks ago, that we took a trip up the KwaZulu Natal North Coast to Mkuze, to Ghost Mountain Inn. It was actually the furthest we’ve been up the North Coast together!
Ghost Mountain Inn is a beautiful 4-star venue that has so much to offer itself – but SO much to do in the outlying area. It’s easy to see how it’s a top choice for many international travelers, although they’ve obviously been knocked on this front thanks to the Covid 19 pandemic. However, it is an IDEAL spot for locals in terms of families, groups of friends or even a romantic getaway or honeymoon – in fact, they are actually a wedding venue too, and a FABULOUS one.

We arrived on a hot, sunny Friday afternoon – the only sunny day of the weekend to come, unfortunately, but we arrived with enough time to still enjoy the afternoon by the pool with some of the fabulous cocktails that the bar men whipped up. Their bar has an excellent variety of spirits (especially craft gins), beers, ciders and wine (their wine list is great, very nice and varied in terms of price and varietal). Their cocktails are exceptionally well made, very well priced and utterly delicious.

Once the sun was dipping for good, we headed up to our room – the Tshaneni suite that we’d been upgraded to that very afternoon – to freshen up and get ready for dinner in the restaurant attached to the bar. The Tshaneni suite at Ghost Mountain Inn has everything you could ever need for a holiday – a mini kitchenette with stove top, microwave, fridge and tea/coffee making facilities, a lounge, a balcony with patio furniture, a gorgeous and huge bed, dressing room and a bathroom with a massive tub, and both indoor and outdoor showers!

What I loved most was the EXQUISITE outdoor shower – something we could sadly only use our first day there, as the Saturday and Sunday were chilly and rainy. I also really loved the little touches – the Terres d’Afrique toiletries (they smell INSANELY good), and the shaving kit and tooth care kits, perfect for if you’d forgotten an essential at home!
Our dinner the first night was utterly delicious – hearty, well cooked food, and a lovely and varied menu. We opted to do starters and mains our first night, and mains and dessert our second night – we both battle to really go through 3 courses and not roll out of the restaurant, and this way we could just enjoy ourselves while still feeling comfortable.

BREAKFAST
Sadly, with covid being a very real problem, breakfast is served a la carte, from a menu – you’re allowed to choose from a selection of hot and cold breakfasts, all absolutely delicious looking. Juice, tea, coffee and an array of sauces and jams are available for self service. Hubs headed down a little before me and ordered a muffin warm from the oven, with homemade preserves, while I opted for the fresh fruit platter. We each ordered a hot breakfast too!

FACILITIES
Ghost Mountain Inn has some fabulous facilities, including 2 swimming pools, a spa, the bar and restaurant and a gym! I also have to admit that the general bathrooms in the main area are fabulous if you’re holding an event there – spacious, multiple stalls and sinks. I know this sounds ridiculous, but if you’re searching for a beautiful wedding venue, this should be something to take into account. There’s also a gorgeous jetty that you walk along to reach a deck where you can sit over the water and enjoy the scenery.
I was able to enjoy a spa treatment while we were at Ghost Mountain Inn. The Spa is beautiful, follows all hygiene protocol, and I had one of the best massages of my life. They use the Terres d’Afrique products in the Spa too.

ACTIVITIES
There are a number of internal and external activites at Ghost Mountain Inn, including wildlife and scenic safaris, fishing trips, boat cruises on Lake Jozini, as well as PLENTY of activities to keep little ones occupied. We took a cruise on Lake Jozini on the Saturday morning, and even though the weather was chilly and overcast, it was just lovely to get out on the water and spend some time in the fresh air.

Overall, we had the most wonderful, restful weekend away. We enjoyed a few activities, and also a lot of just being together with no distractions and lots of chatting.
