Last year at the end of September, Hubs and I took a trip to Cape Town. Our main reason was my gorgeous sister-in-law’s wedding, but we took a little extra time off so we could really get some down time from work and do a bit of exploring.

Now I already shared all about our experience on the Franschhoek Wine Tram HERE as well as our stay at the 12 Apostles HERE, but I haven’t as of yet shared the rest of our fun and games. In this post, I’ll share some photos of what we got up to, the places we stayed and all the fun we had.

There will also be a follow up post to this, on our few nights in Hermanus and Stanford too. So stay tuned for that!

WHERE WE STAYED

We spent a night at my sister’s flat in Seapoint, and after that it was a couple of nights at The Glen Boutique Hotel and the 12 Apostles. We had made a booking via Booking.com with the Radisson Blu Waterfront and it went pear-shaped – our booking was confirmed, yet the money was never taken off our account, and when we called to query not even a week before we were due to arrive there, the staff members my husband spoke to were SO unhelpful. Not at all the impression I’ve gathered of the hotel group from the reviews I’ve seen, or the service we had when we stayed at their Gautrain branch in Gauteng. My Hubs then had to search for a booking very last minute, and we found The Glen.

The Glen Boutique Hotel has forever changed our views on hotel stays, and we’re now fully converted to supporting smaller boutique hotels where we can. The service we had their was absolutely nothing short of exceptional. The food (phenomenal), staff (unbelievably friendly and couldn’t do enough to help us) and the hotel itself (SO gorgeous) exceeded every expectation we could have had, and we’re already saying that the next time we visit Cape Town we’ll have to book to stay for a night or two.

As I mentioned (and as you’ve probably already read), we also spent a night at the ultra-luxurious 12 Apostles – you can read about that HERE, but I’ve included some photos too. Because it’s GORGEOUS!

WHAT WE DID, ATE AND DRANK

Unfortunately, due to limited time we weren’t able to do everything we’d have liked to in Cape Town. We spent one evening ‘pub hopping’ and being a Sunday (even though the following day was a public holiday) a lot of places ended up being closed. We did visit The Village Idiot though, and loved the whole crazy vibe of it. Great drink specials, fab music and giant jenga, that we got stuck into with my sister and her friend. Another stop I enjoyed was Beerhouse – I’d been before, but really wanted Hubby to see it. The range of beers available is amazing, and I rejoiced in the fact that I could have a Kopparberg Strawberry and Lime cider on tap.

We visited the Mojo Market, which I was exceptionally excited about, and drank and feasted to our heart’s content. I have no idea what happened to most of the food pics, but they’re no longer with me (sob). I picked up dim sum from Tao’s Chinese Kitchen which were melt-in-your-mouth good, Hubs went for a lamb schwarma from Sha Sha Warma which was delicious and my sister opted for a poke bowl from Hokey Poke. I was on holiday, so I couldn’t leave without having dessert, and I THOROUGHLY enjoyed a Baskin Robbins ice cream – the Twinberry Cheesecake flavour is amazing (blueberry and raspberry sauces with chunks of real cheesecake in a cheesecake flavoured ice cream). I also loved the variety of different gins available at the bar, and this is where I tried both the Aviation American gin and the Woodstock High Tea gin – both had been on my radar but hadn’t seen them on offer anywhere.

We also paid a visit to Giovanni’s Deli. I insisted on my Hubby trying the place but he had no idea just why I was so obsessed until we sat down with some amazing coffees, a freshly baked bagel and pretzel and some delicious meats and cheeses. I think it was one of the highlights of the trip for him.
