I haven’t had a hair care empties post since March! I’ve obviously used up a lot of hair products since then, the hubby uses the same shampoos as I do, and I’ve since gone from brunette to blonde! I have quite a few empties, so keep all of this in mind haha. Also – the treatment products for after washing were almost empty and I’ve been trying to finish them up. Challenge completed!
SHAMPOO
OGX Argan Oil & Shea Butter Shampoo
I have repurchased this several times and I absolutely love it. It leaves my fine hair super clean but super soft, and it smells absolutely delicious. I don’t feel it weighs my hair down at all!
My hair dresser, who like most hair dressers prefers me to use salon products, even said that my hair was in great condition when I was religiously using this with the matching conditioner!
Would I repurchase?
Already have done, and can use it for my blonde hair too – I use it every other wash, and my purple shampoo in between.
Goldwell Colour Fade Stop Shampoo
This is my salon shampoo from when I went dark. I went through a couple of these, but didn’t need to worry too much about fading, as we went so close to my natural hair colour that even if the colour faded, you couldn’t see.
This shampoo does work exceptionally well from previous experience, and it smells like pomegranate. Yum!
Would I repurchase?
Yes, if I went dark again. For my blonde hair I stick with the Goldwell Blonde and Highlights Anti-Brassiness shampoo.
Schwarzkopf Gliss Magnificent Strength Shampoo
I love the packaging of this shampoo (and conditioner), and love the smell. It worked really well on my more natural coloured hair, but it just isn’t nourishing enough on my newly blonde hair.
Would I repurchase?
If I went dark again.
CONDITIONER
OGX Argan Oil & Shea Butter Conditioner
Just like the shampoo, I loved this and even my hair dresser was happy with the state of my hair when using it.
Would I repurchase?
Yes! However, right now I’m using a hair mask as a conditioner each time I wash my hair, in an effort to keep my hair as nourished and damage-free in it’s blonde state.
Schwarzkopf Gliss Magnificent Strength Conditioner
Just like with the shampoo, I liked this pair a lot, but it’s just not enough for my blonde hair.
Would I repurchase?
Yes, if I go dark again.
MASKS AND WASH OUT TREATMENTS
Garnier Ultimate Blends The Nourishing Repairer Balm
Love love love this hair mask. I’ve been through several of these tubs, and it works for both brunette and blonde hair. I love how rich and nourishing it is, yet it doesn’t leave my hair heavy or flat on top. I’m using this and a Goldwell mask right now as my conditioner, to keep my hair in good condition.
Would I repurchase?
Yes, time and time again!
OGX Sea Mineral Moisture Moisture Surge Treatment
I love this treatment – it’s light as a conditioner, smells spa-like and gives hair great hydration. This is a great summer-time hair mask as it gives you the hydration, but it isn’t super rich or sticky or heavy at all. I’m just so obsessed with the smell too – it smells expensive and delicious.
Would I repurchase?
Yes, once the weather gets hotter as it’s super light but hydrating.
Dove Intensive Repair Treatment Mask
I used to absolutely love these Dove hair masks. I bought this one during my mission to get my hair in tip top condition again when I was dark. It was nice, but now that I’ve tried the Garnier one, I just can’t see myself going back to this one. Not only is it slightly pricier (although not by much at all), it just didn’t seem to do the job as well.
Would I repurchase?
Perhaps if I couldn’t find the Garnier one.
LEAVE IN TREATMENTS AND OILS
Kardashian Beauty Black Seed Dry Oil
I won this oil absolute yonks ago. I didn’t use it for quite some time as the scent is very strong and overpowering. To the point where, if I wore a perfume I’d smell this over it! It was a decent hair oil though, it did leave my hair soft and super shiny and nourished. I just took so long to use it up due to the smell. Odd, seeing as the dry shampoo and conditioner from this range have a similar scent but it’s much lighter and fresher, and I enjoyed them.
Would I repurchase?
No – I’d try other products from the range, but I’ll pass on this one.
Goldwell Rich Repair Serum
This is pretty much a salon-only product that stylists put in your damp hair after washing. I bought one off my hair dresser in the build up to my wedding, as I wanted to use it the week before so that my hair was soft and super shiny for the big day. I had one of these put into my hair with each colour treatment, and then used this baby the week before the wedding and loved it. These serums don’t weigh your hair down at all, yet it’s super rich and smells lovely. My hair looked so so healthy and shiny and fresh.
Would I repurchase?
I try to have one of these each time I colour my hair (regardless of colour), budget permitting.
DRY SHAMPOO
Batiste Nourish & Enrich Dry Shampoo
I love Batiste dry shampoos – they’re the best ones I’ve used! I bought this thinking it would leave my hair feeling soft and shiny and nourished. It was also clear, unlike the regular ones.
Sadly, this can wasn’t even empty. I just couldn’t keep using it, as it left my hair feeling sticky and heavy and not nourished at all. Bit of a miss from Batiste.
Would I repurchase?
No.
Batiste Cherry Dry Shampoo
I was a bit meh about the regular dry shampoos with darker hair, but bought this one anyway as it’s a goodie. I didn’t have a problem at all! As long as I massaged the product in after leaving it for a minute in my hair, I had no residue or white caste in my hair whatsoever. The trick is to spray it on to the area you wish to be less oily, holding it quite far away. You then leave it for a minute or two to soak up the oils, and then massage it into your head. Brush your hair and you’re good to go!
Would I repurchase?
Yes. I’ve bought this particular cherry scented one several times!
Batiste Dark & Deep Brown Dry Shampoo
Oddly enough, I can’t find this specific can on the Clicks website – there is only Medium Brown and Divine Dark available there.
I bought this dry shampoo when I went dark, in the hopes that I’d be able to avoid the white caste from the regular Batiste ones. I don’t know if it’s the pigment in the powders in this, but it was a very heavy product, and left my hair feeling dirtier than before. I then tried the Nourish and Enrich one (at the top of this section) and eventually went back to the original version.
Would I repurchase?
No. I much prefer the original. Plus I’m blonde now, so pointless!
STYLING PRODUCTS
Goldwell Power Whip Volume Mousse
This mousse is in the old packaging, and that’s how long I’ve had it. I had about a third of a can left, but I know I’ve had this for far too long and I think it was expired as the mousse didn’t smell exactly the same as when I first bought it.
I found this volume mousse to be very sticky and it left my hair feeling hard.
Would I repurchase?
No. I’m currently using a different brand’s volumising mousse, and it’s cheaper and a much lighter product.
Goldwell Magic Finish Brilliance Hair Spray
Also in the old packing is this hair spray. I so seldom wear hair spray that it took me AGES to go through this massive bottle of product. I did like that it wasn’t a hard, sticky spray, and it definitely left my hair with a lovely sheen. The hold was decent for a 3 out of 5 too.
Would I repurchase?
Possibly. I’m currently using a different hair spray, and like I said I don’t use hair spray much.
What hair products have you been using lately? Anything good for blonde hair/highlights that you think I should try?

Such a fan of dry shampoo!
Me too – such a great way to not only freshen up second or third day hair, but great for saving water too! xxx
Oooh, I may have to get my hands on the OGX Sea Mineral Moisture Moisture Surge Treatment! EVERYTHING is dry at the moment (#Roaccutane), which is handy in one way because my hair is never getting oily, but it could do with some TLC!
♡ Cammy • Jane Wonder Blog – Fashion and Beauty •
It’s lovely, but if your hair is super dry, and you’re not getting oily, I’d try something a little richer Cammy! It’s very light and even now not enough for my hair. Waiting for the weather to get hotter and more humid before I repurchase that one! x
