I’ve been lucky enough over the last month to put all of the incredible brow products from Julienne to the test.
For full disclosure – eyebrows were never my strong point. I’ve been lucky enough to be blessed with relatively full, dark brows, and listened to my mama when she instructed me at a young age to NEVER over tweeze. In fact – she tweezed away stray hairs and shaped them for me (she’s actually a beauty therapist by trade). The most I really did for my brows was brush them and use a bit of brow mascara, and I only really started reaching for a brow pencil in about 2015/2016.
Then, in 2016 I started studying to be a professional makeup artist. I managed to nail my foundation applications, lippie applications and eyeshadow without a hitch – it was always brows I had an issue with. This was partly due to not being used to playing around with different formats of brow product, and partly due to my constant perfectionism, and therefore frustration when I couldn’t achieve perfectly symmetrical and matching brows.
Since I studied, I’ve worked hard at perfecting my brow application. I don’t go for that bold, defined ‘Instagram Brow’ that you see everywhere. Sure, it has it’s place and a lot of people can pull it off – a lot of people that are NOT me. If I’m asked by a makeup client to give her that type of brow, she’ll get it. But I prefer a natural, fluffy, fresh looking brow, where you get a gentle fade from a lighter front to a darker and slightly more structured tail.
I love that I got to play around with the 3 Julienne brow makeup products (their Brow Pomade, Retractable Brow Pencil and Brow Cushion), and I’ve been a fan of their Brow Tint Kit for home brow tinting for some time. I really enjoy how you can achieve different kinds of brows with all the products, and that you can also use them in conjunction with the others.
I’ll do a review on each product for you below, and I’ll add the link for my Brow Tinting Tutorial on Instagram too. PLUS you’ll find a lovely discount code at the bottom of this post, for the Julienne site!
Just for reference – I used the shade Dark Brown for all the Julienne brow products I used.
My usual tool of choice for my brows is a retractable pencil. Sure, I’ve enjoyed the regular pencils that you need to sharpen, but nothing beats a retractable one!
The pencil tip has a unique prism shape, so it’s fab for those with thicker brows. This pencil’s product is softer than any pencils I’ve tried before, so you do need to go in with a less is more mentality, however if you go in gently then you get super fast, filled in brows that look natural and don’t smudge.
I really enjoyed using this brow pencil from Julienne, and I’m quite a fuss-pot when it comes to selecting them. It’s also decently priced, and comes in 2 shades – Medium Brown and Dark Brown.

This was the most unique texture of brow product I’ve ever used. I had seen brow cushions start to pop up and always marvelled at the idea of such a product. That being said – I didn’t think it would work out for me as well as it claimed to.
How wrong I was! Strangely enough, of the 3 brow makeup products from Julienne, this was my favourite!
The Brow Cushion comes in the sweetest little compact, with a fabulous quality mirror, a dual ended styling tool, and a cushion compact that seals completely to protect the product from drying out, and has 2 shades for you to use for a more natural look.
The product is also a liquid to powder formula, and sets down straight away. It’s unbelievably easy to use and the mirror is such a nice size that it was my brow product of choice to travel with this past weekend.
Although this is the priciest of the Julienne brow products, it’s definitely one I’ll repurchase as soon as it’s finished, as I can’t stop reaching for it, and I LOVE it for travel. It also comes in 3 shades – Fair, Medium Brown and Dark Brown.
I’ve tried out a number of Brow Pomades now, but this is by far the most creamy, pigmented one I’ve found. Others are often more waxy, and the pigment isn’t as strong. It is utterly SUPERB.
Another bonus is that even though it’s so creamy and high in pigment – once it sets down (which it does pretty fast), it’s also smudge-resistant and waterproof!
I definitely recommend this product if you’re looking for something versatile enough to use lightly and sparingly for an everyday brow, but one that you can go in a little more boldly with when you want to go for a full glam brow. The jar will last you absolute ages too, as it’s a 6g jar, and you need the tiniest amount of product.
One tip is that I’d definitely suggest using a good quality, very thin angled brush, as it’ll provide the most precise application of the Brow Pomade. The pomade comes in 2 shades – Medium Brown and Dark Brown.
I have been using this brow tint kit, ever since I started tinting my own brows – something I was petrified of doing. The Julienne Brow Tint Kit is SO unbelievably easy to use, and comes with great instructions that if you follow, you’ll have no issues.
I do suggest you try doing a patch test before you go ahead and do your brows, just to make sure you don’t have any allergic reactions to the product. I also recommend you read the time instructions correctly – they say to leave the product on for 3-5min depending on how much you’d like the colour to take, but NO LONGER than 10min. I do occasionally leave on for just under 10min and I find it does make the colour develop much darker and last longer.
All you need to tint your brows at home is a good thick moisturiser or barrier cream – I have used Eucerin Aquaphor, I love using my Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant, I’ve used SBR Repair Cream and even a little Nivea Creme or Vaseline. As long as it creates a barrier between your skin and the tint, you’re good. You use a cotton bud to apply this on the skin around your brows, to stop the tint from developing too far out from your brow area.
You just ensure your brows are clean from any products, oils, makeup etc (use a wipe or some micellar water and then dry them off), apply this cream around your brows, and then get mixing – equal amounts of the tint and the cream developer, mixed together in the little dish that’s part of the packaging. Then, it’s all about application!
Overall I am SO impressed by the quality of the Julienne brow products, and I’ll definitely happily repurchase any of them.
