Empties – Makeup

It seems like it’s been forever since my last empties post, but it was only in November!  I have a huge gift bag at home that I put empty products into, and when I was tidying my room, I realised that I really need to take some photos and get rid of the contents – so you can expect some empties posts in the next few months.

Today I’m doing one I haven’t done before – finished makeup products.  These usually take a lot longer to accumulate than skincare or body and hair, as makeup products tend to last longer due to you only using a smidgen at a time.

MAKEUP EMPTIES

Rimmel Stay Matte powder in Transparent – My favourite powder.  I actually have another empty of this, since taking the photos.  It’s affordable, it does the job fabulously.  Enough said.

MAC eyebrow pencil in Lingering – I’ve heard so many other bloggers talk about this, but particularly Jane Wonder and Pink Peonies.  I gave in to the hype and finally bought it.
It was a really great eyebrow pencil, it was long lasting and it blended easily.  My only gripes were that it didn’t come with a spooly, and that you had to be careful to not roll it up too far as it was so soft it would snap off.

Catrice Re-Touch Light Reflecting concealer in 020 Light Beige – I won’t be repurchasing this.  It was very sheer coverage and really didn’t seem to make a big difference under my eyes, even when I colour corrected before.  I much prefer their Liquid Camouflage concealer.

Revlon Photoready Two Way Powder Foundation in Natural Beige – I use this powder only when I’m self tanned, as it’s a darker shade.  It is great for setting foundation and adding a touch more coverage, and it really gives my skin a super-flawless look.  Not to be used when I’m looking for a fresh, natural day look, but it works like a gem for night time.

Soap & Glory Archery Brow Pencil in Hot Chocolate – you can’t even see the writing on this pencil anymore, as I used it to death.  These are to date my favourite brow pencils, but I cannot get them in South Africa, so I’ve since settled on NYX, as it’s almost the same.

Essence Gel Waterproof eye linger in 01 Black Blaze – I’m not really using black eyeliner at the moment, but I did finish this one before I went more onto the chocolate-hued liners.  This goes on smoothly, you have a short time to smudge it out, and then it’s set until you remove it.

Essence Oil Control blotting sheets – I finished up both of these, and then realised that Essence wasn’t selling them anymore.  DEVASTATION.  These are the best blotting sheets I’ve ever used, and since coming off the pill, I really need something to blot my skin during the day.  I’ve tried a few other brands, but none seem as good?  I also got these on the Dischem sales for I think about R20 a pack.  If anyone has a good brand of blotting sheets, PLEASE TELL ME!!!

Essence Keep It Perfect makeup fixing spray – this is a decent enough dupe for the MAC Fix +.  Nothing will ever fully compare to the MAC one, but for girls starting out, and even us folk on a budget, it does the job of settling any powders on your face, and helping your makeup to last that bit longer.

Essence Stay All Day 16hr longlasting concealer in 20 Soft Beige – I didn’t like this product at all.  It oxidised like a b**** on me, and didn’t last at all.  Yet somehow my sister loves it and says it works just like the Catrice Liquid Camouflage on her.  She uses a different shade though, so this baby is being tossed.  Perhaps I just got a bad one, or maybe it’s just this shade?

L’Oreal Brow Artist Sculpt in 04 Dark Brunette – my aunt gave this to me as it was too dark for her.  I really just didn’t enjoy using it, it was too dark for me as well, and it just seemed to smear everywhere.

Essence clear brow gel – this did a great job until I started to get grossed out by the colour change, which you can see below.  I ended up not being able to use the rest, so this one is getting tossed.

Urban Decay Chill Makeup Setting Spray – I used every last drop of this stuff.  It’s hydrating and I could go out and not touch up my makeup at all!  Definitely going to repurchase this.

Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara – this was my top mascara until the L’Oreal False Lash Wings Sculpt arrived on the scene.  I would probably repurchase this if I couldn’t find the L’Oreal one.

Revlon Colorstay Pressed Powder in Natural Beige – I wasn’t impressed with this powder.  It didn’t work as well as my Rimmel one and was more expensive, so I won’t be repurchasing it.

Catrice Sun Glow Matt Bronzing Powder for darker skin – I bought this shade as it seemed like a good fit for me, and it was.  I’d definitely buy it again, it was a really lovely bronzer and it did the job for a great price.

Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation in Sand – my first foundation love.  With my wedding this year, I think I’m going to get my hands on another bottle of this.  I’ve been without it for nearly a year now and I’m really missing it!

L’Oreal Infallible Matte 24hr foundation in 11 Vanilla and 22 Radiant Beige – one of my favourite drugstore foundations.  Lasts all day, goes on matte, medium to full coverage.  I used these two shades as my winter and summer ones, and mixed them when I was in between.

Have you tried any of these products?

Happy 2017!! Thanks for the mention, Siobhan! I also love the Soap & Glory Brow Archery pencil, the L'Oreal foundation, UD setting spray, Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation (I actually bought a pump from MAC and now I have so much more control over how much Double Wear foundation I use) and Stay Matte powder. Gosh, I have so many empties at the moment but I just don't get round to featuring them in a blog post or video…I need to get my butt into gear! xo

    Ah it's such a pleasure!
I think I need to organise a pump for my next bottle of Double Wear – it'll help not only the control but so much air getting into it!
If you saw the rest of my empties (skincare, bodycare, hair) you'd be horrified!
    xx

So much fun to see what you've been using and loving. I use the Catrice light reflecting concealer for touch-ups on my nose/rest of face if I need any during the day, and I quite like it. It's natural enough to not be obvious. But I agree, it doesn't seem to be wow for under the eyes.
Between MAC Lingering and the Nyx brow pencil, which one do you prefer? I'm up for a new one and your recommendations are always good 🙂

If you like your full coverage, try the Catrice Liquid Camouflage – you won't regret it! Blends and covers beautifully, looks natural and it's waterproof!

Honestly, regardless of price difference, I prefer the NYX Micro brow pencil. It's said to be a dupe for the Anastasia Brow Wiz, and it's just as good as my Soap and Glory one. It comes in a decent number of shades, and it's super fine, plus it has a spooly! I've never seen it in Clicks stores, but have found it online with no problems.

I think it's so satisfying to actually finish a product.lol. The L'oreal foundation is my absolute favourite. Glad to find somebody that loves it as much as I do. I keep repurchasing it.

It really is amazing! I've repurchased it countless times and will keep on repurchasing it! XXX
