Best of Body Hair Care 2019

Did you catch yesterday’s post on the Best of Makeup 2019?  If not, check it out HERE!  Today, however, I have the Best of Body & Hair Care 2019, all the bits and pieces I used for my body and my hair, and that I couldn’t get enough of!

As with the previous post, I also included a note if the product has come out as a favourite more than once annually over the last few years!

Best of Body & Hair Care 2019, Sugar & Spice

1.Lush Shower Gels (from R95 from Lush stores/online) – I have enjoyed a number of different Lush shower gels in my time, but these were the 4 I adored and used this year.  3 of them were Christmas exclusives (Cinders was from 2018 and Yog Nog 2019, while Snow Fairy is an annual Christmas exclusive) and The Comforter one used to be permanent, but has since been discontinued.  All smelled amazing and left my skin soft and sweetly scented.  Thank goodness I have a 275g bottle of Yog Nog to look forward to, courtesy of my Mom! ♥REPEAT WINNER♥

2.Optiphi Body Curve B Body Wash Polishing Body Cleanser (R265* on Just Skin Clinic online) – This was my ultimate favourite body wash and exfoliant of the year if I’m honest.  It’s a gentle chemical exfoliant for your body, and is filled with lactic & salicylic acids.  I could tell a different in my skin’s texture after just one use, as it was much smoother and softer.  It’s great for those who suffer from body breakouts (especially at this time of year), and it helped smooth down the bumps on my arms super fast.  I BADLY need to repurchase it!

3.Esse Hand Cream (R225 from Faithful To Nature) – A super light, yet nourishing hand cream that is packed with essential oils and smells utterly delicious.  It’s also made with natural and organic ingredients, plus the packaging is lovely and it has a pump!  I’ve gone through 2 tubes and need a new one soon. ♥REPEAT WINNER♥

4.Mixa Restoring Hand Cream (R59,99 from Clicks) – I was sent the new Mixa hand creams very kindly last year, and as with all things Mixa they didn’t disappoint.  In fact I’ve repurchased this one twice already!  There are so many good and affordable hand creams on the market, and if I choose to repurchase one then it means it’s GOOD.  This has a slightly balmy texture, yet it sinks into the skin, leaving no greasiness whatsoever.  I even use this on my feet!

5.Mixa Soothing Body Lotion (R59,99 for the 400ml bottle from Clicks) – If you guys don’t know how obsessed I am about this body lotion, then watch my Empties videos!  I usually have 2 of the big bottles of this, as I don’t even waste my time on the smaller 200ml bottles now.  They even have a small travel size bottle these days, which I bought and just fill up from my big bottle when it’s empty – ideal for getaways and I now never have to be parted from my beloved lotion. ♥REPEAT WINNER♥

6.Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium (from R955 at Dischem stores/online) – This was my wedding fragrance.  That’s how much I adore it!  A sulty, sexy, sophisticated scent that just exudes femininity.  It is a more gourmand fragrance, so for the lovers of something sweet.  Notes of coffee, pink pepper, orange blossom, jasmine, vanilla, patchouli and cedar.  I’m on my second bottle and will need a third soon! ♥REPEAT WINNER♥

7.Avon Eve Elegance (R450* from Avon and currently going for R360) – I have to be honest, I’ve never thought much of Avon fragrances until I received this.  It is GORGEOUS and I get constant compliments when I wear it.  Nobody believes that it’s such an affordable scent!  A fruity, floral fragrance, it has notes of jasmine, pomegranate and amberwood.

8.Fake Bake 60 Minute Rapid Self Tanning Spritz (R590 from Takealot) – I can’t find this on Takealot anymore, but they do have the Flawless tanning sprays which I like just as much so I linked those for you!  The SA site also seems to be temporarily down, how frustrating.  This is a very dark tanner, in that I can leave it on for an hour to an hour and a half, shower and after a few more hours (it continues to develop after you wash it off) I’m the darkest I’ve been in YEARS.  It’s also a natural tan, it isn’t orange, and it lasts well over a week if you care for it properly.  My only negative is the strong self tanner smell, however I happily put up with this for how quickly it bronzes my skin.

9.Vita Liberata Rapid Self Tanning Tinted Mousse (R985* from Vita Liberata online) – I have long yearned to try out the infamous Vita Liberata tans, and after one use of this I was smitten.  It has a natural, olive-toned tan to it, which is exactly what I look for in a self tanner.  I love how this can be left on for 1 hour for a light tan, 2 hours for a medium tan and 3 hours or longer for a dark tan.  I’ve experimented with all times and even after 3 hours it is still so natural – one might even guess I’ve just been to Mauritius!  It lasts for 4-7 days, fades incredibly naturally, it doesn’t have that potent self tanner smell, and it feels moisturising on the skin.  All this, PLUS it contains organic botanicals!  I was nervous to start out with the 2-3 week tanners, and now I’m DETERMINED to make 2020 the year I test them out.

1.Goldwell Dualsenses Rich Repair Shampoo (R245 on Retailbox) – My hairstylist uses Goldwell products, so understandably I’ve tried my fair share of them now.  I love how nourishing this shampoo is, yet it doesn’t weigh my fine hair down.  This is ideal for my hair year-round, and really leaves it shiny and healthy.

2.L’Oreal Professional Pure Resource Purifying Shampoo (R238* from Salon 500) – I was kindly gifted this by Salon 500, when I complained post-surgery how terribly oily my roots were.  It’s a problem I suffer with each time I go under anaesthetic, and it is FRUSTRATING, as I have trained my hair to only need washing every 3 days.  By the time I was halfway through this bottle, my hair was back to normal!  I’ve kept using it every second or third wash as a deep cleansing shampoo to rid any build up from styling products, dry shampoo, oils etc.

3.Schwarzkopf Color Freeze Silver Micellar Shampoo (R237 from Salon 500) – They sadly reformulated to original Color Freeze Silver Shampoo, which was in my mind even better than this, yet this is still the best silver shampoo I’ve tried.  It really does get rid of brassy tones fast and it doesn’t leave my hair feeling stripped as so many silver shampoos do.

4.Cake Beauty The ‘Do Gooder Dry Shampoo (R159,95 from Clicks) – I was always a Batiste lover, and to be honest I still am.  However, I find the Cake dry shampoo is much finer – it doesn’t leave a white caste on my hair, it feels exceptionally light, and it smells AH-MAZING.  I’ve gone through so many of these, and they’re amazing to buy when Clicks has the brand on 3 for 2.  It seems they’re out of stock online, but I’ve linked you to all the other gorgeous Cake Beauty products (that dry conditioner is fab, and I’m keen to try the hand creams)! ♥REPEAT WINNER♥

5.L’Oreal Professional Lipidium Absolut Repair Conditioner (R195* from Salon 500) – Salon 500 also sent me this super repairing conditioner as my ends felt parched, straw-like and super damaged earlier this year.  This smells absolutely heavenly!  I used it on my ends and lengths (avoided my roots as it’s very rich) and it did a superb job at repairing and smoothing my hair, with some intense nourishment added in.  A little goes a long way, so this little bottle lasted me a solid 3 months too!  I need to get my hands on a new one – and I’ll only buy it from Salon 500.  Check out their variety of products and their prices guys, they’re amazing!

6.Garnier Ultimate Blends The Nourishing Repairer Balm (R74,95 from Clicks) – GUYS.  I have lost count of how many tubs I’ve gone through.   The quality you get for the price is insane, the tub lasts for ages and it leaves my skin soft, nourished and smoothed.  ♥REPEAT WINNER♥

7.Goldwell Dualsenses Rich Repair 60sec Treatment mask (R300 from Retailbox) –  SUPER rich, SUPER nourishing hair mask.  I finished my last one and I need a new one of this ASAP.  It restores the hair structure from within, and you can see and feel the difference after a couple of uses.  Well worth the splurge, and if you’re suffering with badly damaged hair I’d recommend using it as your conditioner for the first few uses to pump up that repairing process. ♥REPEAT WINNER♥

8.Tangle Teezer The Wet Detangler (R260 on Superbalist) – I swear I haven’t used a different brush in so long.  Before this was the original Tangle Teezer, and I bought this one in 2018 and it’s still going strong!  These brushes slide through the hair with ease, don’t tug on your hair, and you can use it on wet hair.  Amazing. ♥REPEAT WINNER♥

9.Goldwell Just Smooth Sleek Perfection Thermal Spray Serum (R255 from Retailbox) – I am clearly a big fan of Goldwell.  I’ve gone through 2 bottles this spray, and let me tell you the word ‘serum’ can be off putting for us with finer hair.  Don’t let it though, as you need a small amount, it doesn’t weigh hair down and it protects against heat up to 200°C.  It helps protect against breakage, and it is the ONLY product I’ve ever used that GENUINELY helps keep my hair smooth in humidity.  I’ve been trying out other products the last few months, but I am so tempted to just put those to one side and get a new bottle of this, but the budget-conscious lady in me keeps telling me to finish what I have first.  Killer product! ♥REPEAT WINNER♥

10.Ellips Hair Vitamins (R89* for a pack of 12 capsules on Takealot) – I was sent all of the variations of these pretty little capsules in 2019,  and I’ve never had such a small, unassuming product impress me SO much.  They offer different things with each colour, but the Pink Hair Repair capsules and the Yellow Smooth & Silky capsules impressed me most.  All of the capsules contain a dose of nourishing oil and they provide some heat protection too.  They also smell delicious!  I need to repurchase these too, as I’m all out and they’re amazing for travel.

11.Vidal Sassoon curling wand (I cannot for the life of me find this anywhere locally now, but I’ve linked a similar one from Sorbet here for you guys that is R349 from Clicks) – This is legit the best curling styler I’ve ever used guys.  It’s quick and it gives me long lasting curls – plus it cost me around R350 as well!  I’m devastated that Clicks doesn’t seem to stock it anymore, so if mine decides to die I’ll have to try a new brand.  If you can get your hands on one – DO IT! ♥REPEAT WINNER♥

12.Silver Bullet Lightning Titanium Iron (R1199 from Hairhouse Warehouse) – I actually won this in a raffle!  I’d never heard of the brand, so was a little meh about it at first (I’ve been a solid GHD or Cloud Nine lover), but it didn’t disappoint.  In fact it tugs my hair less than my last GHD did, and gives me smooth, silky straight hair.  Super impressed with the product and I’d be keen to try more from the brand!

Did you try any of these products during 2019?
