Friday Favourites

It’s been far too long since I wrote a post, and I’ve now sworn to making more time and effort to get weekly blog posts up – including setting up a desk to work from at home.

I’m trying to get a few set weekly posts together and decided to start with a Friday Favourites post – anything I’ve been particularly enjoying for the past week or so.  So without further ado – he is my first of these posts!

Friday Favourites, Sugar & Spice

1. Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water.

These are new in South Africa and they come in two variations – the pink one for even sensitive skins, and the green one for combination/oily skins.

I’ve been using the Bioderma Sensibio H2O for a couple of years now and love it for removing my makeup before I wash my face – it’s perfect for sensitive skin and leaves it feeling clean and hydrated.  However, after only a week of using my Garnier one, I think I prefer it!  I feel it soothes my skin more than the Bioderma one does, and considering the enormous price difference, I’m thrilled (R189.95 for 250ml of Bioderma, and R79.95 for 400ml of Garnier!)

2. John Frieda Sheer Blonde Brightening Oil Elixir.

I won this bottle on Beauty Bulletin for participation in their Beauty Exchange – a forum where everyone who subscribes can ask questions, give tips, share new releases and chat about great beauty finds.  I love using a hair elixir to smooth my hair and leave it soft and shiny, and this one is possibly one of the best I’ve used – it’s specifically for blonde hair, and helps to brighten and reveal shine in all blonde tones.  It includes a built-in heat protectant, as well as Argan and Sunflower oils.  I’ve been using mine for a month now and I’ve barely made a dent in the level of oil.  This retails at around R109.95.

3. Maybelline Baby Skin.

This has been a cult beauty favourite forever overseas, and has a huge following.  I heard whispers of it finally hitting South African stores and searched high and low to find one – I eventually came across one in my local Dischem (and I have a sneaking suspicion it had only just been unpacked, as I’d been in that particular branch only the day before).  It took me a couple of uses to get used to the texture, as it feels silicone-y but also quite hydrating.  Now that I know just how to make it work for my skin, I get this gorgeous airbrushed and blurred effect, and my makeup lasts all day long!  After only using pricey Smashbox primers that have now become R400 for a tube, this little R82.95 tube is a godsend.

4. Kaviar Gauche for Catrice Limited Edition Blurring Powder Pearls.

The Kaviar Gauche display on the Catrice stand is a thing of beauty – if I could have I would have bought every single one of the products on offer.  But at the time this wasn’t an option, and I grabbed hold of the one thing that really caught my eye.  The packaging of all these products are gorgeous but this is particularly pretty – a cream lid with gold writing and flowers, and the pearls are so lovely.  I’ve used this as a highlighter on top of my cheekbones, as well as dusting on my nose, forehead and chin, and it works beautifully.  The pearls retail for R79.95 at Dischem.

5. MAC Wash n Dry Limited Edition collection – Matte Bronze Bronzing Powder.

When I saw how beautiful the packaging of the MAC Wash n Dry collection was, I knew I had to own something from the collection.  I jumped online and had a quick browse, and settled on the matte bronzing powder – I was in need of a good matte bronzer at the time, and this looked like a fantastic option – plus the compact is gorgeous.  This is the perfect shade of bronzer for my skin tone and has been doing such a great job at warming up my skin during the winter.  It’s also nice and buildable, so I’ll be able to use it during summer too.  This is no longer available, but it cost me R365.
