April Favourites

April Favourites, Sugar & Spice

April turned out to be one hell of a month for product discoveries.  So much so, that my April favourites are packed with goodies – new ones, old ones and some yet to be launched!

April Favourites, Sugar & Spice

YSL Black Opium

One of my all-time favourite fragrances, this one usually only comes out in the cooler weather, as it’s heavier, richer and more gourmand.  Described as having a blend of black coffee, white florals and vanilla, the fragrance is feminine and sassy.  In fact, I wore it on my wedding day!

Obviously coffee is the main note in this rock star of a fragrance, but it has additional notes of orange blossom, jasmine, pink pepper, vanilla, cedar and patchouli.  Fiesty!  Plus, the bottle is gorgeous.

P.S. This is actually my second bottle.

Mixa Soothing Body Lotion

You all know I’ve loved this lotion since it launched.  You’ve seen them in empties many times, and I have encouraged so many people to try it (most of them haven’t looked back)!  I have tried the other 2 variants and the barrier cream, but this to me is their standout product.

It’s nourishing, soothing and non-greasy, yet it somehow still manages to keep my skin hydrated all day long.  It also helps the bumps on my arms.

I love this so much I don’t even bother buying the 250ml bottles, it’s all about the 400ml!

It was even featured in my Best of Body & Hair Care 2018 AND My Winter Essentials posts from last year.

Stripped Deo*

Now THIS little product is merely a sample of the soon to come Stripped Deo.  Proudly Durban-made, it’s an all-natural deodorant.

Vegan, cruelty-free, free from aluminium, parabens, bicarb, alcohol, essential oils, salts and any other nasties.  It claims to leave no stains, it’s unisex and suitable for all ages.  PLUS – one application lasts from 2-5 days.

I’ve been trialling this for probably just under a month now, and the tiny 5ml jar is STILL going.  So when they say a pea-sized amount is all you need, they’re not joking.

I was always under the impression that all-natural deodorants didn’t work as well, however this little gem has proven that wrong!  Starting out slow, I spaced the first 2 applications only 2 days apart, and then worked my way up to 4 days between applications.  Only then did I feel a little not so fresh, and I was gyming each day too.  Ideally for me, I’d apply every 2 days, no more than 3.

It’s a super hydrating and soothing formula too.  I have pretty sensitive under-arms, and prior to this the only deodorant that hasn’t irritated my skin is Dove.  However, not only has this not caused any irritation, it’s actually made my skin BETTER.  It’s softer and smoother, and generally just so happy.

Once this jar is finished, I’ll definitely repurchase.

The company has launched an Indiegogo campaign too, so be sure to check it out.  No nasties, only goodness in this deodorant.

Goldwell Dual Senses Rich Repair Restoring Shampoo

My hair has taken a bit of a bashing, what with hormonal fall out and fragility, and me highlighting it.  My hair stylist will NEVER compromise on hair health though, so if she truly felt I should dial back on the colour, she’d speak up.

As a means of compromising, she suggested I use the Goldwell Rich Repair, as it would feed back the nutrients into my hair and repair it.

Since I started using this shampoo, my hair has felt softer, shinier and stronger.  I was worried it might be a bit rich for my hair, but it doesn’t weigh it down, nor does it mean I have to wash my hair more frequently.

Urban Decay X Game of Thrones eyeshadow palette

GUYS.  I am so crazy for Game of Thrones.  And you all know I love me some Urban Decay.  So it was without a single doubt in my mind that I knew I wanted this palette.  In fact, I purchased it ON THE DAY it went on sale on the Urban Decay site.  That same morning.

All of the shades are gorgeous, there are some lovely blending and crease shades, and the looks you can create are ENDLESS.

I don’t want to go into any further detail, as I have a full YouTube video coming, with a first impressions and swatches, as well as a look I created using it.  So keep those peepers peeled!

Revlon Kiss Plumping Lip Crème in 525 Barely Blush

I am so nuts for lipgloss right now.  This particular one from Revlon was featured in my Lipgloss I’m Loving post recently too.

It’s creamy, buttery and highly pigmented, and the shade is a cool-toned blush pink.  It feels more like a thick, nourishing balm than a sticky gloss, and it has a gentle menthol tingle to it.  The formula also fills in any fine lines on the lips!

Totally keen to get myself another shade.

Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer in Light Bronzer

Soft, blendable and deliciously-scented.  All favourable points on this bronzer from Physician’s Formula!  I love the fact that there is a lighter shade, it’s perfect for my fair skin.

However, what I love most is how easy to blend these bronzers are, and how you can build them up from a gentle pigment to a bolder punch of colour.

I use this to warm up my face, lightly contour (it’s a little too warm to do a full glam contour), and I use it to contour the crease of my upper eyelid and lower lash line to make my eyes look done up without any shadow.

Bionic Babe Set-It Babe setting spray

I received this as a freebie with purchase last month, when I purchased my Kiki Beauty Rose Wax lip balm.  We all love a good setting spray, and this one is a real goodie.

It settles powders, it keeps my makeup in place all day, and it doesn’t dehydrate my skin.  Definitely one I’d repurchase!

P.S. That lip balm is to die for too, and I can’t stop reaching for it.  To the point where the tip of my tube burst open while I was away last week, and so I’ve had to repot it into a travel tub.

Filorga Oxygen-Glow Mask*

You should all know by now that I’m an avid Filorga fan.  This range is no exception, and is just as fabulous as the rest!

The mask is designed to plump and hydrate skin, and even out skin tone and texture and promote radiance.

This is totally true to form – I pop this on for 10 minutes and my skin is softer, smoother, much more hydrated and glowy.  Overall, my skin just feels BETTER when I’ve used this.  It’s also a beautiful mask to use just before a function, as your makeup just looks SO much better after using it.

You can use the mask once or twice a week as per normal, or do an intensive 7 day course for a super-perfecting effect.

Let me know if you’d like me to try out the 7 day course and see if it lives up to the promise – I can provide before and after photos for you and an overall impression of the changes!

Nikel Anti-Wrinkle Elixir*

If you’ve been watching my Instagram Stories (and feed), you’ll already know how much I’ve been loving this Anti-Wrinkle Elixir.

It is for drier, more mature skin types, so I don’t use it every single night – it would be a little rich for me – but using it about 3 or 4 times a week at night has truly helped any fine lines or hydration issues.

I love how Nikel uses natural actives in all their products, and the Anti-Wrinkle Elixir is packed with 12 different natural oils and plant extracts.

My top suggestion for application?  Place 2-3 drops in your palm, rub together to warm up and press into skin.  You can also either massage it in with your hands, or use a jade or rose-quartz roller to massage it in.

USN Trust Protein Bars

Hubs and I have been all about healthy eating and gym this year.  Fair we’ve had our cheat days (especially when we were away last week), but as a whole we’ve been trying to make better choices with food.

These protein bars are a great option on days when we don’t have time for a meal, need a high protein snack during the day, or just have a sugar craving that we need to satisfy (when we’re craving something sweet, we share a bar).  The Trust Crunch bar in Berry Dark Chocolate is my favourite, as it tastes almost like a fruity Rice Krispie treat smothered in dark chocolate.  Hubs loves the Trust Delight bar in Chocolate-Caramel Peanut Nougat, as it tastes just like a chocolate without the guilt.

Both bars are filling, packed with protein, high in fibre and very low in sugar.  But the main thing we found with them – very little ‘whey’ taste.  So many protein bars have a heavy whey flavour to them, making them taste too healthy, but these don’t!

What did you love during the month of April?
