It’s about time for an empties post again. I did a Hair and Body empties back at the beginning of October, and here is my skincare version. Please keep in mind that some of these have been empty for around 3 or 4 months, others were almost empty for a while and I finished them up in the last couple months. I did NOT finish all of these in the space of a couple of months!
Woolworths Treat Hydrating Serum R290
This was a decent enough serum. It hydrated my skin and didn’t irritate it. I just felt that I have used serums that have done the same job, if not better, and they were more affordable than this one.
Would I repurchase? No.
REN Max Moisture Concentrate
I searched the REN site for this one, and it seems to have been discontinued. I bought this for around R190 on Runway Sale a while back, and loved it (as I love all REN products). It was a fantastic serum during winter, when my skin was suffering dryness.
Would I repurchase? If I could find it again, then yes.
L’Oreal Skin Perfection Advanced Correcting Serum R139.95
This is my second bottle of this serum. It hydrates my skin and is lovely to use either day or night under my moisturiser. It leaves my skin feeling velvety-soft, and definitely left my skin feeling more even in tone and texture.
Would I repurchase? Yes.
REN Rosa Centifolia Foaming Cleanser R295
This was a decent enough cleanser, I just prefer to not use foaming cleansers. I won this in a competition on Whimsy is Forever a while back. I love the smell of the Rosa Centifolia line from REN.
Would I repurchase? No. I recently bought the No1 Purity Cleansing Balm (recommended to me by my lovely friend Camilla from Jane Wonder) on a REN Runway Sale event, for around half the price, and am much preferring the balm cleanser to the foaming one.
Superdrug Naturally Radiant Hot Cloth Cleanser £5.99
I received this goodie in my International Box Swop. It was AMAZING! It smells like apple pie and cinnamon, and was a thick creamy cleanser that removed all makeup and left my face soft and clean and smooth. It came with a cleansing cloth to remove it with.
Would I repurchase? If I can get my hands on another I will!
Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water 125ml R32.95 and Garnier Micellar Oil-Infused Cleansing wipes R64.95
I’ve gone on and on about how much I love the Garnier micellar water, and more recently how much I love the oil-infused version. I’ve finished 2 packs of the oil-infused wipes and already purchased another one, and I finished a small travel version of the regular micellar water.
Would I repurchase? Yes and I have already.
L’Occitane Divine Eyes eye cream R1025
I did NOT purchase this myself – if I had over a grand to spend on eye cream alone I’d be ecstatic! My mom was given a L’Occitane skincare set for her birthday last year, and this was one of the products in it. She has dry skin and didn’t find this to be enough for her, so she passed it on to me. I really wasn’t impressed with it – it just seemed to make no difference at all and I might as well have not been using it. I find my L’Oreal and Kiehl’s eye creams work MUCH better and cost a fraction of the price.
Would I repurchase? Definitely not.
L’Oreal Skin Perfection Anti-Fatigue eye cream R139.95
I received this ages ago from Beauty Bulletin for review purposes. It was a decent enough eye cream to use in the mornings to hydrate my eye area, and makeup sat on top well. I just didn’t find it really made a difference with any signs of tiredness, and ended up using other products more often. There is still some product left in here but I’ve had it for far too long now and it’s time to get rid of it.
Would I repurchase? Probably not.
Sorbet Hydro Skin Night cream R149.95
I bought and used this up quite a while back. It was a decent night cream and I liked it, but I’m onto using retinol based creams at night now – turning 30 has it’s disadvantages!
Would I repurchase? Perhaps if I was going to alternate this every other night with the retinols.
Neutrogena Ageless Intensives Deep Wrinkle night cream R164.95
I bought this after reading a review from All Dolled Up on it being a very mild retinol-type night cream. The first few times I used it my skin was a little pink and it flaked a bit, but I used it every second or third night. Towards the end of the tube I was using it nightly and my sensitive skin had no issue with it. It was a seriously good budget version, and even though I’m now using the dr.dermal MicroRetinal 5 Rich Repair cream, when I finish it I’ll possibly go back to the Neutrogena one, as it’s just so darned cost effective.
Would I repurchase? Yes.
Clarins Hydraquench Cream R560
This pricey every-day moisturiser has been a constant for me for a few years now. It sees me through dehydrated summer skin and dry, parched and irritated winter skin. I love it, and have repurchased it so many times. I did find a great alternative in the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream, and if it works as well for me during our winter months, then I think I may have permanently replaced this Clarins one.
Would I repurchase? Only if the Neutrogena Hydro-Boost doesn’t work well for me during winter.
Johnson’s Hydration Essentials 2-in-1 Facial Gel/Mask R51.95
I bought this after hearing good things about it from various bloggers. I didn’t try it as a mask, only used it as a gel moisturiser. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great.
Would I repurchase? Probably not.
dr.dermal Texture Correction Pads
I recieved a pack of 5 of these when I won an Instagram competition hosted by dr.dermal. These were incredible! They’re very strong, so I wouldn’t use them during the day, and the following day I’d ensure I used a high SPF (although I do this every day anyway). They left my skin baby soft, and definitely reduced some of the pigmentation marks I had from being on the pill for so many years, and the marks left from spots.
Would I repurchase? I plan on doing so after my next paycheck!
Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix exfoliating facial pads R249.95
This was my second tub of these pads. I love them, even though they’re incredibly mild. I can use one every single evening and it doesn’t irritate my skin. At first I didn’t know if they were working or not, until I finished the first tub and could feel the difference in my skin. Clicks has had them on sale for R100 a tub too!
Would I repurchase? Yes! I already bought a third tub and am halfway through that.
Kiehl’s Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate sample R750
When I did a stop at Kiehl’s in Sandton City in August, this had been my number 1 priority purchase. Sadly, they were sold out, but the lovely lady who worked there gave me a sample to try out anyway. This little sachet gave me 2 decent uses, and I loved it! It’s an incredibly gentle exfoliator that you can use at night before you sleep.
Would I purchase? Yes! It’s on my Christmas wish list, but I might actually buy it for myself.
Random toner sample
I received this in my International Box Swop too, I have no clue on the brand, and it was just a basic toner sample, that I used when I spent a night down the South Coast.
Bioderma Photoderm Aquafluid SPF50+ R228
This is my favourite facial sunscreen. It isn’t greasy, it doesn’t leave a white cast to my face and it let’s makeup sit on top without sliding off.
Would I repurchase? I already have.
Blackhead Removal 3-Step Pack R62
I bought this from Shades of Mink a few months back. While it was definitely fun to use, I don’t know if it really did anything.
Would I repurchase? No. Shades of Mink has other much better masks that I love.
Gold Caviar Extract Brightening Black Mask R70
I have bought this before from Shades of Mink and loved it. They were nice enough to send me another as a gift with my last purchase. It is lovely and hydrating and feels so luxurious with the flecks of gold in the serum.
Would I repurchase? Yes!
Crystal Collagen Gold Mask
I received this in one of my Bellebox’s and it was lovely and hydrating to my under eye area.
Would I repurchase? I can’t seem to find it on the Lit Beauty site (where it was from) anyway, so I couldn’t even if I wanted to.
Freeman Diamond Mineral Rinse Mask R27.95
I bought this from Dischem a while back. It exfoliates your face and cleans out impurites and dirt. You get about 2-3 uses from the one sachet so it’s super cost effective.
Would I repurchase? I have several times.
Freeman Mint & Lemon Clay Mask R27.95
I bought this when my skin was going through a bit of a spotty patch. It worked wonders to help get rid of my breakout and it didn’t irritate my sensitive skin. I also got 2-3 uses out of this one sachet.
Would I repurchase? If my skin needs it, yes.
What products have you finished up recently?
Ah, thanks for the mention, friend! I'm defs keen to try the Freeman Diamond Mineral Rinse Mask after reading this xxx
