Right, let’s get to it! I’ll go from lowest to highest coverage.
1. Sorbet BB cream in Light R120
This is my go-to BB cream. I’ve tried the offerings from Garnier, LA Girl and even a Revlon BB cream, yet none of them are as good as the Sorbet one.
You can see I’ve even cut the tube in half to scrape out the very last drop of product – that’s because you won’t find this shade in stores at the moment. There’s older stock still of the Medium and Dark shades, but one of the ladies at Sorbet told me that they’re repackaging/reformulating the product, and then there’ll be all three shades back in stock.
This gives more coverage than other BB creams, it’s light and yet very moisturising, and it lasts all day, when paired with concealer and set with powder. Even when my skin isn’t looking it’s best.
2. Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft-Matte Hydrating Foundation R139.95
To be honest, this foundation doesn’t last as long as my others (and it doesn’t claim to, so I wasn’t that concerned). I even felt that on certain days it was a little too hydrating for my skin, and I’d need to set it with more powder than usual, just to ensure it didn’t slip off.
However, this feels so soft and velvety that sometimes you don’t even remember you’re wearing foundation. It doesn’t leave your skin feeling dry or cakey, and it looks so smooth and soft on your face.
It definitely felt moisturised, and I didn’t get that tight skin feeling after a few hours, that some matte foundations leave, yet I prefer to use a good moisturiser and a long-lasting foundation. This would be more of a go to for a relaxed day rather than a party evening. It just feels so darn good on your skin!
3. L’Oreal Paris True Match Super Blendable Foundation R199.95
I realise this is a liquid foundation, and therefore you’d think it would give less coverage than the Maybelline one. However, this foundation is very buildable – I can easy apply two layers and it builds up, and lasts really well too.
I found it so easy to find a good shade match for me in this foundation, as they come in warm, cool and neutral shades, which really helps. The only problem is a lot of stores don’t have testers of all the shades.
The foundation is super easy to blend into your skin, and the very slight shimmer helps to blur imperfections and pores. It feels incredibly light on your skin too.
4. Rimmel Lasting Finish 25hour Foundation R145.95
Camilla from Jane Wonder suggested I try this, in our videos for both our April Favourites, and our No Mirror Makeup Challenge. It’s her go-to foundation, so I thought, hmmmm why not?
It’s a thick, creamy foundation, it has really good coverage, and it feels light and very very hydrating on my skin. It also really does stay put (perhaps not for the 25 hours that it claims to, as who honestly wears their makeup for a full 25 hours??? Sies!). However, this is my second favourite out of all of these foundations, and it really is so good.
5. L’Oreal Paris Infallible 24h Matte foundation R189.95
This is my absolute favourite of all of my drugstore foundations. This shade in 11 Vanilla is my winter shade, or for when I don’t have self tanner on. Otherwise I use 22 Radiant Beige, which is perfect for when I have a golden glow.
It is good coverage, but you can totally build it up, and apply a second layer on areas you feel may need a bit more, and it doesn’t go patchy or bunch up. Sometimes I don’t even feel the need to use concealer when I use this foundation! If I set this nicely with powder, it will literally last me ALL. DAY. LONG. Right up until I remove my makeup in the evening.
I have had a lot of people asking what foundation I use, and during the week, and even when I go away, more often than not it’s this one, as I know it won’t let me down.
I’m on my third tube of Radiant Beige, and my second tube of Vanilla. That speaks volumes.
