A Majestic Night at Majeka House

We spent a glorious second night in Stellenbosch last month – at Majeka House, a 5 star boutique hotel nestled in a private garden estate, and a short distance from gorgeous wine farms such as Blaauwklippen Wine Estate and Vriesenhof Vineyards.

MAJEKA HOUSE

The grounds of Majeka House are absolutely beautiful, but are just NOTHING in comparison to stepping foot indoors.ย  This is all down to a creative partnership with renowned designer Etienne Hanekom.ย  The decor is bold, striking and memorable, yet somehow comfortable too.

We were treated to a brief tour of the common areas of the hotel.ย  The bar and lounge area is utterly exquisite, all in rich, dark colours, with a roaring fireplace, comfortable armchairs, and a striking blue bar with all your heart could dream of sipping on. The indoor pool area is an added luxury – an exquisite chandelier overhead, a massive pool with an adjoining hot tub.

Unfortunately we didn’t have time during our stay to take advantage of the Majeka House spa, but it looks a TREAT of note, with all spa packages including complimentary use of their indoor pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna.ย  They also use QMS Medicosmetic and Africology products in their treatments – 2 brands I’ve been treated with and loved!ย  The Africology African Potato Body Wrap treatment sounds sublime – full body exfoliation, followed by an African Potato and Marula oil balm, and then while you’re wrapped up to let this soak up, you’re treated to a head and foot massage. Heavenly!

Sadly, the weather also wasn’t really playing ball, and was rainy, gloomy and grey, so we weren’t able to enjoy time outdoors in the Majeka House courtyard area, where beautiful stretchers are set out in groups to soak up the sun and an afternoon cocktail.ย  This also meant we couldn’t make use of our semi-private pool, as we were bumped up to one of the utterly sensational Poolside Choice rooms on arrival!

These 2 rooms have a smaller pool shared between them, and it allows for a lovely family stay with an adjoining door that can open if you opt to book both rooms.ย  On top of this, the decor is just beautiful (a lovely bit of info about Majeka House – all the rooms have their own individual decor, which adds to the pizzazz of your stay).ย  A humongous bed with the softest linen, an enormous flat screen TV (and with the positioning of the bathroom with a sliding door on it, you can even lie in bed and watch a movie), coffee machines and the most incredible mini bar that is worked on an ‘honesty bar’ basis.ย  The bar is filled with a fantastic selection of craft beverages too!

We spent the late afternoon catching up on some admin (on my side) and enjoying a hot bath with a movie (on Nick’s side), before heading out for the evening for dinner.

The whole property is filled with beautiful gardens – this was the pathway leading to the Poolside Choice rooms

A night of blissful sleep (another 9 hours down for both of us, we managed to catch up on a lot of sleep debt on this trip!), and we were treated to one of the BEST breakfasts we’d had in ages.ย  Majeka House Kitchen knows how to take Covid-friendly buffets to the next level, by serving it to you high-tea style on pretty tiered tea platters.

MAJEKA HOUSE BREAKFAST

MAJEKA HOUSE BREAKFAST

Smoked salmon, delicious charcuterie and cheeses, cakes and pastries piping hot from the oven.ย  Fresh fruit, yoghurt and a selection of cereals, freshly squeezed orange juice and hot, strong coffees were served to us as we settled into the most gorgeous chairs I’ve ever seen!ย  All of this on top of a hot breakfast menu that seemed almost impossible to choose from. I was so torn between the Scottish Oats with whisky and honey, and the French Toast – and then I ended up having the Smoked Trout Rosti instead, no regrets at all, as it was just superb.ย  Nick enjoyed a traditonal English fry-up, his absolutely favourite.
